Pearl Kwong, MD, PhD, a pediatric dermatologist in private practice in Jacksonville, Florida describes the hidden impact of molluscum contagiosum based on a survey of caregivers’ experiences. Dr. Kwong collaborated with Adelaide Hebert, MD, Collette Utley, PA-C, and Melissa Olivadati, PhD to illuminate the emotional burden, effort for diagnosis, and treatment modalities pursued for molluscum. In the survey, caregivers reported a substantial impact of molluscum on their quality of life and on their children’s lives. Caregivers reported seeing an average of 2 HCPs in their pursuit of molluscum care and utilized multiple treatments, including HCP-administered procedures and home remedies.
